New York, May 17 (TechNewsPoint.com) – On Monday, marketing company Thane International filed suit against Jean-Claude Van Damme, popularly called ‘The Muscles from Brussels’, claiming it took a financial beating when the action star backed off from his agreement to film an infomercial for its Total Flex home gym. To add insult to injury, the Bloodsport star also bashed the product on his reality series, ‘Jean-Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors.’
The suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges breach of contract, willful misrepresentation and negligent misrepresentation by the actor. The suit claims JCVD grew frustrated with his inability to operate the machine, could not recite his lines and ‘appeared erratic and chaotic.’
Van Damme allegedly continued with his tirade, addressed the camera for his own reality show ‘Behind Closed Doors’ and ‘gave an impassioned speech about how he cannot let ‘his people’ down by endorsing a product he thinks is no good.’ Van Damme followed up his bitchfest by taking a lunch break and performing a disappearing act – calling the infomercial producer later with the decision to officially quit the project.
Air fare, renting the hotel suite and other expenses, according to the company, entailed a cost of ‘at least $25.2 million’ A call to Van Damme’s representative for comment received no response.
